Assignments (all work is due by 26 November .... please, no
incompletes!)-
(1) Judicial Ditch 66: Estimate groundwater-surface water interaction and describe water quality in the JD 66 basin (include soil-, borehole-, and well descriptions, estimate ET rate (data forthcoming!), slug test analysis, flow net analysis, and water quality results). Can you explain possible reasons for the variation of water quality across the site? Here's a copy of the NRCS Field Indicators of Hydric Soils publication and NRCS's web-based soil mapping tool, if you need some more background information for soil descriptions. (80%)
(2) Pump Test:
Analyze the results of the 2002 pump test to estimate
T
and S. The doc file contained in pumptest08.zip
provides details on what should be contained in your report. In
addition to the analysis, you may want to include a drawing showing the
stratigraphy at the site and the relative position of the casing and
screen (the pumping well has a 10 foot screen at the base). For
your convenience, there are tabular
data for constructing the Theis type curve, but be sure to make
sure that the x and y scales of both your type and data curves match!
(20%)
NOTE: To potentially attain a grade of A, independent
work is necessary
--- required for graduate students and optional for others.
