Hydrogeological Field Methods - Fall 2008

Tentative Schedule and Course Information
Extra Effort Required for Graduate Students

Assignments (all work is due by 26 November)-

(1) Description of soils and ET estimation in the JD 66 basin (10%). Here's a copy of the NRCS Field Indicators of Hydric Soils publication.

(2) Estimating groundwater -surface water interaction at JD 66 ridge (includes borehole, well descriptions, slug test analysis, flow net analysis, and, tentatively, nitrate transport) (40%)

(3) Electrical resistivity soundings & interpretation (20%)

(4) Analysis of the pump test. You can use either the Theis or Jacob straight line method to estimate T and S. In addition to the analysis, include a drawing showing the stratigraphy at the site and the relative position of the casing and screen  (the pumping well has a 10 foot screen at the base). How does the composition of groundwater vary as a function of depth? For your convenience, there are tabular data for the Theis type curve. (30%)

NOTE: To potentially attain a grade of A, independent work is necessary --- required for graduate students and optional for others.
